REYNOLDS — On a day Donald Trump appeared to lose more support from officials in his own party, the GOP nominee for president got an enthusiastic endorsement from 17th District Republican congressional candidate Patrick Harlan.
“I still stand with Donald Trump,” Mr. Harlan said to loud applause at a campaign rally and dinner hosted by Rock Island County Republicans on Monday. “The reason I got into this race to begin with is to unite people, to bring conservative principles back to America again.”
Mr. Harlan, of Galesburg, is challenging U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos, D-Moline, to represent the 17th District. He spoke for himself and other Republican candidates present and received several loud cheers from the 100-plus party faithful in attendance when he blasted GOP legislators and other prominent leaders backing away from their nominee in the wake of continuing controversies, including Friday’s revelation of a tape from 2005 in which Mr. Trump appeared to be bragging about assaulting a woman before a TV appearance.
