Oh, yeah … Bobby Schilling is SO running for Aaron Schock’s seat

Press release from Bobby Schilling:

PEORIA, ILFormer U.S. Congressman Bobby Schilling (R-Colona) will be making a special announcement tomorrow morning at Peoria County GOP Headquarters at 8835 N. Knoxville Ave. in Peoria.
WHAT: Bobby Schilling Special Announcement
WHERE: Peoria County GOP Headquarters, 8835 N. Knoxville Avenue, Peoria
WHEN: Saturday, March 28 at 9:30 A.M.Bobby Schilling (R-Colona) was born and raised in Rock Island, Illinois. He has been married to his wife, Christie for 28 years and together they have 10 children. Schilling represented the Illinois 17th District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2011-2012, serving on the House Armed Services Committee, the House Agriculture Committee, and the House Small Business Committee.

So, Schilling is driving to Peoria — the heart of the 18th District — to make a mystery announcement. So, yeah, Schillinhg is running.

I’ll say this again: The 18th District is strongly Republican. But it’s strongly moderate Republican. Schilling has a relatively decent chance of winning the primary. But he has NO change os winning the general. Moderate GOPers will switch to vote for a moderate or conservative Democrat, and Peoria’s Lebanese voters will vote for the Democrat out of spite.

  1. Billy,

Do you remember Tom DeLay? Would you say that a member of the House who voted with Tom DeLay 94% of the time was moderate? That was Ray LaHood. Do you know who chaired the House Unamerican Activities Committee back in the day? Harold Velde of the 18th district born in Tazewell County, educated at Bradley University.

I disagree about the 18th District GOP being filled with “moderates.” Is Demetra Demonte, the Secretary of the RNC from Pekin, a moderate? Did the moderates of the Creve Coeur Club boo John O’Neill off the stage for slandering a Purple Heart recipient? Did moderates in Tazewell County boo candidate Bruce Rauner at the Lincoln Day dinner for suggesting a governmental shutdown as a way to teach those Democrats in Springfield a lesson?

Is there all sorts of “moderate” talk radio in Peoria, or is it Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and the like? How many people attended the Duck Dynasty book signing at the Civic Center last spring?

Was Darin LaHood being “moderate” by being a delegate for Newt Gingrich in 2012. You remember Newt’s GOPAC memo all those years ago urging Republicans to use language to paint their opponents as “sick,” “bizarre,” and “treasonous.” Maybe he like Gingrich’s amily values. Or maybe Darin LaHood likes Gingrich’s history of race baiting? Or maybe Darin LaHood believes that child labor laws are “stupid.” The Peoria press is giving LaHood a free pass just like it did for Schock.

As for Schilling, I hope he runs. The more the merrier. Jil Tracy should too.

Who knows, maybe a Democrat will run. A Libertarian?

  2. You have to look at these things not as a progressive, but with a touch of objectivity. Yes, Darin LaHood compared to Bobby Schilling. One of the reasons moderate Republicans voted for Schock is because the PJS was watching his back for six years.
